A new bioengineering approach to improve oocytes in-vitro maturation (IVM)

A new bioengineering approach to improve oocytes in-vitro maturation (IVM)

Oocytes in-vitro maturation (IVM) is a technique employed both among animals, to obtain embryos for commercial or research purpose, and humans, to minimise the side effects related with ovarin hyperstimulation.
However, despite its promising perspectives, IVM efficiency is still unpredictable and variable for a large-scale commercial use.

In the attached slideshow, we are going to summarise a new bioengineering approach, in which the researchers focused on the importance of developing a 3D structure, placed in a dynamic microenvironment, which allows to support and enhance the typical cellular interactions, as observed in-vivo.

IVTech & POLITO - 5D in-vitro models: a step closer to Humans

IVTech & POLITO - 5D in-vitro models: a step closer to Humans

The standard in-vitro models used to investigate pato-physiological scenarios often lead to results poorly predictive of the human reality, describing the in-vivo complexity introducing several approximations.
It is required an increase in the predictivity of these models, in order to obtain new and more relevant data of the reality. To meet this specification, an upgrade of the technology used to develop these simulations is suggested.

IVTech organizes the 5D in-vitro models workshop to demonstrate the need to increase the complexity of a 3D in-vitro model, including a IV dimension, related with the dinamicity of the cell culture environment and a V dimension, correlated with the cross-modulation between different tissues.
The technology developed in the Alternative project is aligned with this purpose.
The goal of the event, organized in collaboration with POLITO, the Alternative project leader, is to talk about these new needs, showing the Alternative partners’ experience as a case of study.

During the meeting, the company will talk about commercially available products to set up a 5D in-vitro model. Moreover, scientific speakers will introduce their experience in the development of new and highly representative in-vitro models of the human reality, focused on the study of the cardiovascular district.
